JEE Main vs JEE Advanced: What's the Difference?

JEE Main and JEE Advanced are two different exams with different patterns, difficulty levels, and purposes. Main is a qualifier for Advanced; Advanced is the IIT entrance.

Syllabus difference

Syllabus is 95% overlapping. Advanced goes deeper in a few chapters (rotational dynamics, advanced organic mechanisms, multi-concept calculus problems).

Pattern difference

Main: 90 questions, 180 minutes, single-correct + numerical. Advanced: 54 questions across 2 papers, 3+3 hours, mix of single-correct, multi-correct, integer, matching formats.

Difficulty difference

Advanced is substantially harder. Main tests speed and formula fluency; Advanced tests problem decomposition and non-standard thinking.
