JEE Main & Advanced Exam Pattern 2026

JEE Main and JEE Advanced have different patterns. Main is 180 minutes, 90 questions, computer-based, held twice a year (January and April sessions). Advanced is 6 hours (two 3-hour papers), held once in May.

JEE Main format

90 questions total — 30 each in Physics, Chemistry, Maths. Each subject: 25 single-correct MCQs (+4/-1) + 5 numerical (+4/0, no negative). 300 marks total. 180 minutes. Computer-based.

JEE Advanced format

Two papers (P1, P2), 3 hours each. Mix of single-correct, multi-correct, integer-answer, matching questions. Marking varies by question type. Typically 54 questions total, ~200+ marks.

Qualifying criteria

JEE Main: NTA score / percentile. Top 2.5 lakh qualify for Advanced. Advanced: rank-based, top ranks qualify for IIT seats via JoSAA counselling.
